About Me
Musical Background
My musical training comes from the Merriam School of Music in Oakville, Ontario. I began taking lessons there in 2004, starting with group piano, and then transitioning to private instruction in 2007. I began taking classes in musical theatre in 2007, voice in 2009, and guitar in 2012. I also participated in a rock band program called 'Band Chops'. This gave me experience in rehearsing and performing with numerous live musicians (as opposed to just a pianist!) I continued with these lessons until I graduated from high school in 2016.
From 2009 until 2016, I performed in numerous musicals including Seussical, Once Upon a Mattress, The Sound of Music, High School Musical, and Oklahoma! I was also lucky enough to be selected for main roles in many of these shows. It was participating in all of these productions that made me realize my love of performing. In 2014, I was recommended for an advanced voice program at Merriam called the Enriched program. This allowed me to perform in masterclasses and get feedback from numerous teachers and respected musicians including Lorna MacDonald from the University of Toronto and John Hess from Western University. This program worked wonders in preparing me for university auditions, and helped me to better prepare myself for university level expectations. In 2016, my graduating year, I was given numerous performance opportunities that I will look back on fondly. I was able to perform with the Oakville Symphony with mezzo-soprano Emma Leitao, and the two of us were also given the opportunity to perform a joined solo recital at the end of the academic year. In addition to the numerous performance opportunities, I was also offered a teaching job at the Merriam School of Music. I taught weekly preschool music class, readying young children for group piano lessons by teaching them basic skills such as keeping a basic rhythm, differentiating between high/low and loud/soft sounds, and the music alphabet. I fell in love with teaching, and this class just confirmed for me what I want to do with my life. Currently, I am completing my first year at Western University in the Honours Bachelor of Music program with voice as my principle instrument, and I am very excited to see where my musical journey takes me next! |
